It’s always nice to get back into a routine after the holidays but, for kids, it can be challenging. We’ve listed below a few ways to transition back into the new year to set you and your kids up for success.
1. Give them time. Sometimes it takes time to mentally prepare for a transition, especially after they’ve been having fun with friends and family or traveling during the holiday season. Let them know that the schedule will be changing soon, school starting again or whatever it may be, and give them time to process it.
2. Make it fun. First week back at school? Add something fun and unique to their lunch or drop a note or a photo.
3. Setting goals and intentions. New year, fresh start - not just for you but for your little ones, as well. Set a small goal or intention that they can work towards, which will teach discipline and establish healthy habits.
4. Extra cuddles. Change can always be hard, including transitioning back to a routine and some kids may just need a few extra cuddles and hugs to get them going. We’ll take the extra cuddles and snuggles! Bring them on!
As parents, it’s always nice to get back into a routine but remember it’s important to have patience. As with any transition, it may take a few days to get back into it. Hopefully, these tips will make it a little easier for you and soon enough everyone can feel like they are working towards some of the goals and intentions that were set.
